Site commission
A payment a vendor makes to a facility, usually a percentage of what incarcerated people and families spend.
A site commission is the share of revenue a vendor pays back to the jail or prison that awarded it the contract. On commissary, published commission rates range from roughly 16% to over 35% of sales.
Because commissions are paid out of prices charged to families, they work like a tax on the people with the least. The FCC has banned site commissions on phone and video calls. CRP is designed as a replacement: the value that would have gone to the facility goes back to the person instead.
