What is Visitation List (Approved Contacts)?

The list of people a facility has cleared to visit an incarcerated person. You usually must be on it before you can visit.

A visitation list is the set of people a facility has approved to visit your loved one. In federal prisons, you can visit only if your loved one has put you on the list and the BOP has cleared you.

In the federal system, your loved one mails you a visitor information form to complete and return. The BOP may run a background check. Immediate family, other relatives and up to 10 friends or associates can be added. If you are not approved, your loved one is told and must let you know.

Messaging systems such as TRULINCS keep their own approved contact lists. Call the facility before you visit.
